Post GCSE Information 2020

Welcome to your ‘One-Stop Transition Shop’! This is a page with information about the enrolment processes at your local sixth forms and colleges, which will hopefully provide you with information and confidence for when you enrol.
Don't forget, if you think that you can achieve a higher grade than you have been given,  you have the option to sit your exams in the autumn.

Remember that if you don't get a higher grade on your exam, you will keep the highest grade that had been given to you.

Speak to your school if you want to sit your exams.
Picking your sixth form or college
First up, have you decided where you want to continue your studies? Will it be your local sixth form where you will be in a familiar setting with people you know? Or will it be a college with new faces and a new environment? These may be things you consider before choosing your next steps, however the most important decision is what you want to study.
Try to chose something you enjoy and are interested in. Pick subjects that excite you and that you want to spend two years learning more about- many studies have found that people are more successful in courses that they enjoy and are interested in.

  • Ten Scientific Reasons why its better to study something you love https://thoughtcatalog.com/brianna-wiest/2014/02/10-scientific-reasons-why-its-better-to-study-something-you-love/

Once you have decided what it is that you want to study, check out which sixth forms and/or colleges deliver those courses. Due to Covid19 it is not possible to visit institutions that you are interested in, but many will have websites full of information and some may even have virtual tours so you can see if that organisation feels right for you.
It’s also advisable to check out the organisations policies, student experience programmes, careers support and general information like bus routes to help you get a good idea of what life will be like to study there. Once you have decided you can apply for the course/s online or over the phone and then you’re all set until enrolment!
Enrolment
So, now you have picked your course/s, submitted your application and have your best GCSE grades (either Ofqual processed grade or Centre Assessed Grade/teacher predicted grade- you can chose whichever is the highest), you’re really to enrol!

Due to Covid19 most sixth form schools and colleges are processing enrolments either online or over the phone only. There will be a small number of staff onsite to process very complex applications throughout enrolment, however it is advised to enrol online or over the phone if possible.

To enrol you will need to have your GCSE grades and a form of identification (birth certificate/passport etc. don’t worry if you do not have any proof of identification, just contact the organisation to discuss and they will advise you on other information that can be used). If you are applying for Learning Support Fund or a Student Bursary you will need to provide additional information too (you will need to follow your organisation guidelines to present this information accurately). Once you have these follow your chosen organisations processes to complete your enrolment, then you’re all set to start your next educational steps in September!
Enrolment processes for different organisations:

Following onto sixth form from your school
If you have chosen to stay at your school and start sixth form, your school will be able to process everything for you! You may wish to contact your school to confirm your subject choices and start dates, then you’re all set for September!
