The United Nations Project
Project Lead: Sarah Farrell

About the project

A group of our year 12 ThinkHigher Champions took part in a project in partnership with Dr Shahnaz Akhter and Dr Ben Richardson from the Politics and International Studies Department at the University of Warwick, Tracey Peterson from the United Nations Remembering Slavery programme and Peggy King Jorde – a Harvard Loeb Fellow for a webinar looking into three key topics:
  • Hidden Cities – finding local links to our colonial past
  • Unveiling the Past: Remembering slavery
  • The Case of St Helena – campaigning to preserve the past (UNESCO site)
We worked together with the History department at Redmoor Academy to run a pilot project looking at links to colonialism in Hinckley and will be creating new sessions to roll out to schools in the next academic year.
The ThinkHigher Champions spoke in the first ever student panel at the BISA (British International Studies Association) conference to talk about Vicarious Identity with Dr Shahnaz Akhter and Dr Joseph Haigh.
